2018/05/10

On the morning of May 10, 2018 local time, Premier Li Keqiang met with Speaker Chuichi Date at the House of Councilors of the National Diet of Japan in Tokyo.

Li Keqiang expressed that China and Japan are important and close neighbors to each other. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the signing of the China-Japan Treaty of Peace and Friendship. My visit this time is to, together with Japan, review the spirit of peace and friendship of the Treaty, abide by the principles of the Treaty, and consolidate political mutual trust, so as to bring China-Japan relations back to the track of normal development and achieve new, long-term and stable development on this basis.

Li Keqiang pointed out that the return of bilateral relations back to the normal track will surely and strongly boost parliamentary, local and non-governmental exchanges between both sides, and promote healthy and stable development of China-Japan relations. The parliamentary exchanges are an important part of bilateral relations. China stands ready to, together with the National Diet of Japan, enhance exchanges, increase mutual understanding and trust of the two countries, and consolidate the public opinion foundation of the development of bilateral relations.

Chuichi Date expressed that Japan and China are neighboring countries separated by only a narrow strip of water. Japan-China relations are one of the most important bilateral relations to both sides. The peaceful development of China not only bears important significance to Japan, but also to the region as well as the world. The two sides should take the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Japan-China Treaty of Peace and Friendship as an opportunity, uphold the concept of strategic mutual benefit, and focus on the overall situation, so as to promote bilateral relations for constant and forward-looking development. The House of Councilors of Japan is willing to make contributions to increasing mutual understanding and trust between the two countries and pushing forward the development of bilateral relations.

Wang Yi and He Lifeng attended the meeting.
